Waterloo Sunset - The Kinks

Where did you get it?

My local Co-Op

When?

I was 8 or 9

"My mother & Nan shopped there weekly & took me with them. The record department was on the top floor where the opticians was. Mom had an appointment, so my Nan & I browsed around. The Kinks was being played in the record department, & I was walking around head nodding to the beat. My Nan thought it was adorable and bought it for me. I still have it & it means the world to me... Rock on." - Paul

Under the Moon of Love - Showaddywaddy

Where did you get it?

Woolworths

When?

In 1976, I was 6 years old

"It was played a lot at my local youth club and having all my parents' old records from the 1950s and 1960s and an old Dansette record player it just connected with what I was also listening to. I still have a lot of those records including Beatles, Stones, Gerry and the Pacemakers, The Hollies and many 45s from that era. My Dad was born and lived in Liverpool and my Mother was from Manchester, they met at a works Christmas night out, so there was great music to be listened to. I've never seen him live but by chance, I saw him on TV this week and his new album (what I heard of it) sounds like it's worth a listen, completely not what I was expecting to hear😊" - Curse

The Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Soundtrack

Where did you get it?

Woolworths in Musselburgh

When?

In the early 70s

"One morning in the early 70s a lone golden labrador followed my brother and me home. We did not know who owned it. We took it to the police station - fairly easy task as it willingly walked with us. They knew the dog, he was a frequent visitor, running away from home often. They said they would reunite the dog and owner. They took our details in case the owner wanted to thank us. They did and included a £1 reward. With my share I bought the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang soundtrack on vinyl. 33p in Woolworths." - John

Woolworths in Woolwich, South East London

When?

In 1968 when I was 6 or 7

"The radio was always on in our house so I assume I heard it being played on Radio 1 and possibly saw it on TOTP. I had to save up my pocket money for several weeks but was determined to buy the record. I can still remember buying the record at our local Woolworth's shop. It was the start of my passion for vinyl which is still as strong today although I have had to reduce the collection several times over the years. I still have the record today and recently bought the original LP the single came from." - John

The fourth side of the LP is etched with a 'picture' of the members, and it has ended up being rather valuable, the top Discogs price is nearly £250. I'll never be looking to sell it though!" - Holly
