Top 10 Rarest Records Atlas Records Sold In August 2025

Rare Vinyl Records

Hannah |

This month's rarest records contain a wide range of rock and indie albums, and even a rarely seen flexi-disc single by The Cure.

Did any of your favourite artists make the list? Read on to discover which rare records we sold this month.

10 - Forest - Forest - First Press - A-1 B-1 Matrix

This first pressing of Forest's self-titled album was pressed on green Harvest labels. The labels were printed without the EMI logo, which is commonly seen on most Harvest labels. This album has very few official represses, making the first pressing a very desirable item. Because of its scarcity, it has been unofficially pressed repeatedly on various coloured vinyl.

9 - Big Thief - Masterpiece

A limited edition sealed pressing of Big Thief's debut album on red vinyl stakes the number 9 spot. Many indie artists will sell their records on a limited run, often using other colour variations than standard black - this edition being translucent red. Because this record was limited to 250 copies, and was only released in the US, for fans of Big Thief, a sealed copy of this is a rare find.

8 - Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath Vol 4

With the passing of Ozzy Osbourne in July, we've seen a rise in purchases of Ozzy Osbourne's discography. Volume 4 was released in 1972, on Vertigo Swirl labels. The design seen on this record label is the short-lived, original format that Vertigo Labels used between 1969-1973. The label is known for its use on progressive rock music, and other, non-mainstream styles.

7 - The Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers

Early pressings of Sticky Fingers - like this one - were released with a functional zip fly, zipping the die-cut sleeve closed. Reissues of the same record were released with the zip printed on, which makes zipped copies highly collectable. The picture on the front of the album caused quite the controversy when it was first released. Captured by Andy Warhol, the picture was originally assumed to be of Mick Jagger, but it was really actor Joe Dallesandro, whom Andy Warhol worked closely with over eight films.

6 - Yes - The Steven Wilson Remixes - Box Set

Released in 2018, The Steven Wilson box set has remixed and remastered versions of: The Yes Album (1971), Fragile (1971), Close To The Edge (1972), the double album Tales From Topographic Oceans (1973), and Relayer (1974). For a Yes fan, owning this box set alongside the original albums is a unique way of listening to another musician's take on this timeless selection of albums.

5 - The Cure - Lament - Red Flexi-Disc - Single-Sided

It's rare that a 7" single makes this list, let alone a flexi-disc single which has stood an incredible test of time. Originally released as companions to the 'Flexipop' magazine, Flexipop included these discs with each issue, featuring exclusive tracks, interviews, or other audio content. Due to their fragile nature, they were only intended to be played a few times, so often when they arrive with us, they are not in a playable condition. Any we do come across are few and far between, which means that when we do see them, they often sell quickly. Additionally, because they are made of a slippery, bendy material, there is a space on the record for you to place a coin to hold it in place on the turntable so it doesn't slip when being played.

4 - The Growlers - City Club

City Club is the 5th studio album which The Growlers released. Limited to 500 copies, this album was produced by Julian Casablancas - lead vocalist of The Strokes. Each year, The Growlers are integral in organising The Annual Beach Goth Festival. They headline the festival every year, which they have done since its inception in 2012.

3 - U2 - Bad (Live) - Promo

Promo copies like this are often limited pressings, and are released before the first official pressings of the record. They were generally given to shops, to play in the background, or to DJs, who were playing music to the masses. Because of this, some promo copies, in good condition, from artists whose music is already highly sought after could be of particular interest.

2 - The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground

This 1969 edition of The Velvet Underground's third album contains the 'Valentin mix' of the album, created by MGM engineer Val Valentin, as does the Canadian edition of this same album, released in the same year. All other worldwide releases prior to the mid 1980s contain Lou Reed's alternate 'Closet mix'. Another difference with this version of the album is the image of Lou Reed on the back cover, which is split horizontally on this issue, rather than vertically as it is on all other issues.

1 - Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin II

This misprinted version of Led Zeppelin's second album is taking the top spot this month. First pressings of this album have 'Live Lovin' Wreck' printed on the B side label, with Wreck later being replaced with Maid. Many Led Zeppelin albums have their fair share of nuances and misprints, making collecting multiple iterations of their albums almost like completing a set.

Protect your rare records:

If you own, or are looking to purchase rare records, they should be kept in the best environment to prevent them from being damaged by the elements. We recommend using HDPE inner sleeves, and polythene outer sleeves, to best protect your collection. You can add them to your next order below.
