Rare Vinyl Records

Hannah |

March was certainly the month for selling rare rock records.

This month's rarest record list features more mainstream albums from The Beatles, plus iconic progressive, alternative, and blues rock releases.

Did any of your favourites make the cut? Read on to discover the top ten rarest records we sold in March 2025.

10 - Slash - Apocalyptic Love

Coming in at number ten is Slash's Apocalyptic Love. It was the second solo album for the guitarist, and features the vocalist Myles Kennedy, along with bassist Todd Kerns and drummer Brent Fitz. The album debuted at number two on the Canadian Albums Chart, and at number twelve on the UK Albums Chart.

9 - Blondie - Greatest Hits: Deluxe Redux

Released in 2014, this compilation album featured two LPs 'Greatest Hits Redux' - a collection of re-recordings of Blondie's past singles - on pink marbled vinyl, and 'Ghosts of Download' - their tenth studio album - on blue marbled vinyl. It included a DVD of 'Live at CBGB 1977', as well as a fold out poster, and coloured prints. Its success is partially credited to its delay in release to January 2014, in order to avoid the rush of albums being released in the Christmas period. The release of this album was additionally in celebration of Blondie's 40th anniversary.

8 - The Clash - Clampdown - 7"

Released in 1980, with a B side of 'The Guns of Brixton' this 7" is a rarity due to it only being released in Australia. At the time of its release, because the 7" record was not released outside of Australia, it was highly sought after, leading to US promo copies being made. Regardless of the promo copies, this record is highly sought after, and copies of it are rarely seen.

7 - Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication

This release is almost identical to other releases of Californication, but has some subtle font differences, making it rarer than other pressings. Its singular pressing ring on the label indicates that this is an earlier pressing of this record, as later pressings gained at least one more. This release also has cream Warner Bros. Record labels, whereas later pressings gained a 'fire and water' label instead.

6 - The Beatles - Please Please Me 180G Mono

While this is a record we see relatively often, this specific mono recording is a rarity. This 2014 re-release on 180g vinyl was mastered from the original analogue master tapes, which were also duplicated at the same time due to the originals' deterioration. Because of the significant risk of damaging the master tape, each track was mastered onto the record individually - a long process!

5 - Clutch - The Elephant Riders - Red Translucent

Released for Record Store Day 2016 and limited to 2000 copies, this record is highly sought after. This was the first time this album had been released on vinyl, and it has a hidden bonus track, following D1, starting after approximately a minute of silence.

4 - Led Zeppelin - Untitled - Misprint

Commonly referred to as 'Led Zeppelin IV', this was the 6th version of this record to be released by Atlantic Records. Track B1 is misprinted as 'Misty Mountain Top' instead of 'Misty Mountain Hop'. The feather on side 2's label is also upside down. Most versions of this record have misprints, making them highly collectable.

3 - U2 - War - Misprint

Into the final three for the month of March! Released in a textured, gatefold sleeve, this edition of U2's 'War' was printed without a tracklist on the label. It is a PRS pressing, characterised by the raised label rim.

2 - The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Axis: Bold As Love - First Press

This first press, mono recording of Axis: Bold As Love was released in 1967. First pressings like this included an orange lyric sheet with lyrics in red lettering. Another identifying factor of this UK release is the black and silver labels, as later pressings' labels became more colourful.

1 - Gravy Train - (A Ballad Of) A Peaceful Man

Onto the very rarest record we sold in March, a copy of Gravy Train's (A Ballad Of) A Peaceful Man. This copy had Vertigo Swirl labels, which are sought after by collectors due to their scarcity. The design seen on this record is the short-lived, original format that Vertigo Labels used between 1969-1973. The label is known for its use on progressive rock music, and other, non-mainstream styles.
