A Quick And Easy Guide To Packing Records

packing your collection

Sending your collection to us, and not sure how to pack them?

When shipping records cross-country, it is important that they arrive at their destination in the same condition they left you in. This post will give you a one-stop guide to how to pack your records safely, so they aren't damaged in transit.

What do we send you to pack your collection into?

Once we have confirmed that we are interested in purchasing your collection, we will organise sending you packaging to securely pack your collection into. This will include as many boxes as required, usually one box per 70-80 LPs, bubble wrap and tape. We will send you a confirmation when these have been dispatched to you, and they will arrive packaged together.

If we have also booked your collection in advance of sending you boxes, the labels for the collection will also arrive with the boxes. They will be in a labelled envelope, usually underneath the tape. These can be stuck to the exterior of the boxes when they are packed.

Which way up?

We recommend stacking the records vertically in the box, as you would store them on a shelf, as this is best for the records. If you then label the top of the box, so the courier knows which way up to keep the boxes, this will ensure they are kept upright in transit.

How much bubble wrap should I use?

We recommend bundling your records into groups of approximately 10-20, and parcelling them in bubble wrap, before putting them into the boxes. This makes sure that the records don't move around during transit, and are protected from any damage, should the boxes weaken in transit.

The key thing is to ensure that all sides of the box are protected by bubble wrap, and that the records cannot move around much or at all inside the boxes. Boxes will break and tear when the items inside are able to move around, especially when the items are heavy, like records!

How do I tape up the boxes?

We recommend using more tape than may seem necessary - the corners of boxes (when full of heavy records) can become rather vulnerable/are prone to splitting if they haven't been taped over. The photo below shows at least how much and where we suggest taping each box.

If any of the boxes are half full, you can cut down the corners so that they can fold into a smaller box, which helps to prevent any movement inside.

Will my records be safe in transit?

We have purchased 100s of collections through our courier service, and have not yet had any issues with it, even in cases where the boxes had been packed poorly by the seller or our offer was not accepted and the records were sent back to the seller.

The collection will be insured from the moment it is collected from you, including during shipping and while at our premises.

You can read our collection buying reviews on Google and Trustpilot.

If you would like to add any more reinforcement to the boxes, using duct tape, extra packing materials etc, then you'd be more than welcome to, however, we have never had any problems with the packaging we provide our customers.

If you would like to learn more about the courier service, you can read more in our blog about how our courier service works.

What if I change my mind?

At any point in the process, you are welcome to change your mind. If you no longer wish to sell your records, and they are still in your hands, we would appreciate it if you could send us an email, or call us on 01823 428496 to make us aware that you don't wish to sell your collection anymore.

If we have already sent you boxes, you are welcome to keep them, but please notify us that you no longer wish to sell your collection to us, as we will need to cancel any collections scheduled.

Ready to send us your collection?

When we send boxes, our usual process is to book the courier alongside this, so when the boxes are packed, all that's left for you to do is to wait for the courier to collect them. If you have any issues on the day or need to reschedule your collection date, please let us know as soon as possible.
