Atlas Records' 10 Best Selling Albums Of 2024

Top Selling Albums of 2024

Tom |

We've been fortunate enough to experience a plethora of legendary albums pass through our hands throughout 2024, so today we thought we'd share your favourite!

So with that in mind, here's a list of our best selling albums of 2024. Will your go-to record take the top spot? Let's start at number ten...

10 - The Beatles - 1962-1966

Continuing the trend of colour-themed Beatles albums, 1962-1966 released as the band's first double-compilation album in the Spring of 1973, and would go on to sell over 7.5 million copies in the US alone!

The album was later reissued in 1978, and was pressed onto red-coloured vinyl as an homage to its iconic cover and matching inner sleeves.

9 - Electric Light Orchestra - Out of the Blue

Featuring fan favourites such as 'Mr Blue Sky' and 'Turn to Stone', ELO's 1977 release was another to garner the coloured-reissue treatment, as only a year after its initial release, it was re-released in the UK on transparent, blue-coloured vinyl.

Out of the Blue would go on to become ELO's best selling album - with over 10 million sales worldwide. It even managed to grab a spot on VH1's most successful albums of all time, placing at number 23 in the 2013 list.

8 - Wings - Band on the Run

Wings' third studio album 'Band on the Run' seems to be one of those records that we seem to come across in pretty much every collection we see, and likely with good reason...

The album originally released in 1973 and would go on to sell over 6 million copies worldwide. Its steadily-increasing popularity at the time would eventually go on to make it EMI's most successful album of the 1970s within the UK.

7 - Dire Straits - Love Over Gold

Any rock collection (or indeed any collection, generally) wouldn't be complete without the electrifying tones of Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits. Love Over Gold is a classic, and we're not surprised at all that's it's landed solidly on our list of 2024's best selling albums.

Love Over Gold was Knopfler and Strait's fourth studio release, and came out in 1982 to critical acclaim. The album even managed to sustain a place within the UK's Official Album Chart for 200 weeks, and has sold a reported 7.5 million copies worldwide to date.

6 - Queen - Greatest Hits

What would a top ten list be without Queen being mentioned in one way or another? Coming in just outside of our top five is Queen's 1981 Greatest Hits compilation - featuring hits such as 'Bohemian Rhapsody', 'Don't Stop Me Now' and 'We Will Rock You'.

It is widely reported that the Greatest Hits album is in fact Queen's most successful studio release ever, landing with over 25 million global sales - not to mention the more than 1,000 weeks it has spent inside the top 100 of the UK Album Chart.

5 - Blondie - Parallel Lines

Blondie's 1978 release 'Parallel Lines' became pretty much an overnight success here in the UK, landing it the top spot in the UK Album Chart only a few months after it debuted.

With global sales estimated at over 20 million, it's no wonder Parallel Lines has snuck its way into our top 5! After all, who doesn't love a bit of 'One Way Or Another'?

4 - Supertramp - Breakfast In America

With it's eye-catching cover art, you'd be hard-pressed to find a more iconic Supertramp release than 1979's Breakfast In America. By 2010, it had amassed more than 30 million global sales - it even won two Grammy awards only a few months after its initial US release.

The album was released in the Spring of 1979, and was only out-performed in total unit sales that year by Pink Floyd and Michael Jackson

3 - Fleetwood Mac - Rumours

Fleetwood Mac's eleventh studio release Rumours was an immediate success for the Anglo-American group, gaining over 40 million copies sold worldwide to date. It also went on to cement its spot on the list of the UK's best selling albums of all time - placing at number 11.

Rumours was later reissued in 2023, and featured live-recorded versions of the original album track list. The recordings were taken from an opening night performance California back in 1977, with the album also including a bonus, previously unreleased track for the deluxe edition of the release.

2 - Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms

Having won a Grammy award a year after its release in 1986, Dire Straits’ fifth studio release quickly became a staple of many record collections. It was even honoured again in 2020, as it was inducted into the Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums of All Time - placing at number 418 on the list.

Brothers In Arms was such a hit in fact, that it even became the first album to ever reach more than one million units sold in CD format. Q Magazine also placed it at number 51 of the '100 Greatest British Albums Ever'.

1 - Pink Floyd - The Dark Side of the Moon

With over 40 million global sales, Dark Side of the Moon is arguably Pink Floyd’s most iconic album ever - and places at number one on our list with good reason! It is so iconic, in fact, that it is the only record on this list to covet a place inside of the top five best selling albums of all time - sitting at number 4.

Be sure to check your copy for the much sought-after blue prism label as well, as this first-press label design was changed quickly after production of the album began, and so can be extremely valuable in the right condition!
