The History of the Fame Record Label

Fame Label

Hannah |

Fame reissues of popular records were a staple of the 1980s music scene. Commonly cheaper than the earlier pressings of these releases, this reissue label made purchasing records more accessible for younger people potentially relying on pocket money to buy their records.

What Is A Reissue?

A reissue is a record which is released after the initial first pressing of a record. They are often produced for a wider audience, on a larger scale, after the record label knows an album has sold well. The may not have particular nuances that the original first pressings had, which often makes them cheaper. When we sell a reissue, it will be stated as an extra on the item description. What Is The Significance Of The Fame Record Label?

Music was one of the biggest definers of the 1980s. Many people, regardless of whether they grew up in the 1980s, will say that 80s music has something for everyone, and it's eclectic nature is part of the reason it is still so popular today.

Created by the record label 'Music For Pleasure', Fame Labels did something for music that no other label had done before - taking the biggest names in music at the time and making buying their records a more affordable process.

Where Could You Buy A Record With A Fame Label?

The Music For Pleasure Label was a joint venture between EMI Records, and the publisher Paul Hamlyn, which was responsible for distributing records to more non-traditional outlets. This meant that to purchase a record, it wasn't necessary to frequent a record store. Fame labels could be found in WHSmith and Woolworths, which meant they were not only cheaper, but music on vinyl was being pushed out to a larger audience.
