Our Comments: The album usually credited with inventing heavy metal - written and cut fast, released on Friday the 13th of February 1970, and still as iconic as ever. This is the coveted first UK pressing on the large Vertigo 'swirl' label (swirl above the spindle, 'Vertigo' below, 'A Philips Record Product' beneath that), matrices 1Y*1 / 2Y*1, in the textured gatefold. It's the true first issue, identifiable by the copyright misprint on the inner gatefold reading 'Copyright subsists in all Stereo recordings…', later corrected to '…Vertigo recordings…'. Fifty-five years on, a copy this clean is getting hard to find; the sleeve has held up well. Pen on B label and comes with original Vertigo inner. Record plays with quiet but fairly consistent background noise, is a fairly typical VG+ with surface marks visible under a bright light but nothing that causes repeated clicks or pops that overpower the music.
