Rare Vinyl Records

Holly |

Introducing the top 10 rarest records we sold in March 2026! Some of the most notable highlights include the first-ever single released by Scottish post-rock band Mogwai, and a first pressing of Vicious Circle by American hardcore punk band Zero Boys.

Of course, many of the iconic classics feature this month too, including an interesting Bowie reissue pressed exclusively for the V&A, and a rare withdrawn Queen 7" sleeve.

You can read our other top tens and a guide to protecting your records by exploring the rest of our blog.

Read on to discover our rarest albums this month.

10 - Mogwai - Tuner - Limited Edition 7"

Mogwai’s debut single, Tuner, was self-pressed and limited to just 500 copies, making it an incredibly scarce early release. At the time of sale, there were no other copies available across Discogs or eBay, underlining just how rarely this one surfaces. The band would go on to become a defining name in the post-rock scene, with a long run of acclaimed studio albums. Early pressings like this offer a great snapshot of where it all began.

9 - Nick Drake - Bryter Layter - First Repress

Next up is a first UK repress of Bryter Layter by Nick Drake. Similarly hard to come by, there were only a couple of copies available on Discogs at the time of sale. Originally released in 1970, this 1972 repress remains very close to the first pressing, retaining the original runouts, textured sleeve and pink rim Island labels. The real rarity here comes down to how few copies surface, with those early pressing characteristics only adding to its appeal for collectors.

8 - Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath Vol 4 - First Press

Early pressings of Black Sabbath Vol 4 are well known for their outstanding sound quality, and that’s a big part of what drives demand. The Discogs page for this first press variant is full of praise for its punchy drums and overall listening experience. Much of this comes down to the lacquer being cut by George Peckham, whose work is marked by the familiar “Porky/Pecko” etchings in the runout.

7 - Gentle Giant - Gentle Giant - First Press

Gentle Giant were a relatively niche progressive rock band, active throughout the 1970s. This first pressing of their self-titled debut comes on the iconic Vertigo swirl label, a favourite among collectors. We acquired this alongside several of their releases from a dedicated Vertigo collector, highlighting just how sought-after these early pressings can be.

6 - Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin III - 200g Quiex

This is a 2007 repress of Led Zeppelin III, pressed by Classic Records in their audiophile 200g Quiex SV-P (Super Vinyl Profile) series. We actually featured this one on our social media recently, so we'll let Chris pick this one up below...

5 - The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Are You Experienced - Mono First Press

Are You Experienced was the debut album from The Jimi Hendrix Experience, with this mono first pressing released in 1967. Interestingly, unlike some of the other records on this list, collectors often note that the sound quality on this version leaves something to be desired, with comments pointing to flat or underwhelming mastering. Despite that, its place here shows just how desirable it remains. It’s a great reminder that, in record collecting, rarity and historical significance can often outweigh pure audio quality.

4 - David Bowie - Heathen - 180g Limited Edition

This 2013 reissue of Heathen, originally released by David Bowie in 2002, was pressed in a run of just 500 copies exclusively for the V&A Museum in London. Our copy was still sealed and individually numbered 360/500. It also retained the original hype sticker on the shrink-wrap, noting the pressing by Music On Vinyl, the Dutch label known for high-quality vinyl reissues.

3 - Queen - Hammer To Fall - Withdrawn Sleeve 7"

The second 7" to feature on this month’s list, at number three is Hammer To Fall by Queen, complete with the withdrawn picture sleeve. This sleeve was quickly pulled after release and replaced with a plain red version with black text. The change came amid concerns that the original artwork made it appear to be a live release.

2 - Zero Boys - Vicious Circle - First Press

It's always nice to see something other than the famous classic rock artists on this list, in at number two we have a US first pressing of Vicious Circle by Zero Boys, released in 1982 and limited to 2000 copies. Zero Boys are a US hardcore punk band, formed in 1979 and still releasing music today.

1 - The Smiths - Complete - Limited Edition Box Set

And at number one... something a little different! A little like the Beatles box set we featured last month, this is a physically enormous release, with the shipment we dispatched weighing in at over 8kg. The set was released in 2011, and this copy was still sealed. The leaflet on the box read "All eight albums by The Smiths remastered from the original tape sources and packaged together for the first time. This DELUXE EDITION includes the albums on CD and 12" vinyl, 25 x 7" singles, The Complete Picture DVD, a 12 page booklet, 8 art prints & a poster. Also included is a code to redeem the full catalogue as high quality MP3s. Numbered and limited to 4000 copies - THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION!"

We hope you enjoyed discovering our top ten rarest records from March, and the video featuring Chris taking a closer look at the copies of Led Zeppelin III.
